The weekend
began on a Thursday, March 16th. We packed the 4 runner after another
day of the daily grind to head up 395 to Mammoth. The trip was
planned, but the weather really co-operated with us. We arrived at
Motel 6 after midnight with light snow falling. Friday, scattered snow
fell throughout the day, the top was closed, we skied freshies off chair 5
and facelift. Being Irish on Saint Patrick's day is always fun,
especially when the snow is coming down, slits is hanging, and Hennessey's
is serving up Irish car-bombs. Saturday, chair 23 opened early & the
first turns with two feet of untouched light powder off of Scotty's were the
best of the season. After that the rest of St. Paddy's day ski weekend
was chalked up in the history books. Mammoth received over 130 inches
in the month of March so why should we be surprised that after the best
powder turns of the season, we were able to hit the replay button for more
PowPow & many more powder turns on Sunday. |
