aligned Friday, March 3rd. Mammoth received 39 inches of snow on
Monday & Tuesday, another cold storm blew in Thursday night with snow
falling at the rate of two inches per hour. Before ending Friday
night, with temps in the teens, the storm dropped another 36 inches of snow
onto Mammoth Mountain. It was uncertain Friday while sitting behind
the desk, when exactly the storm would push through allowing the mountain to
open. By Friday night it was apparent that Saturday would be a blue
bird ski day with relatively calm winds & lots of powpow. We had to
go, had a beer, loaded the 4-runner and woke up at 2:45AM, arrived to
Mammoth at 8:30AM. Skied all day, Dragons Back & everything off of
chair 23 were the highlights. Waist deep powder with plenty of face
shots. We left Mammoth skied out & satisfied at 3pm, got back in the
4-runner drove 400 miles back to San Diego & called it a day. As
usual, camera comes out late in the day. "The 18 hour Mammoth strike" |
