Bede Durbidge was lining up his
first dream day on the ASP. After taking down Andy Irons (3rd), he
then beat Chris Ward (23rd) in the quarters, then he blasted past Taj
Burrow (2nd) in the semi's to face the last USA man standing, defending
champion, and 7th time World Champ, Mr. Kelly Slater in the final.
It was the first ASP final for Bede Durbidge and he surfed it like a
seasoned vet, according to Kelly Slater. Slater blamed the loss on his
poor tactics in the final, but Bede Durbidge got there and capitalized.
